Open the phone book or browse the internet and you will find lots of choices under “custom homebuilders.” Because of this your thought process can get clouded. We recommend you ask all builders these key questions before you seriously consider hiring them:
- What percentage of each home is really “custom”? Every home we’ve ever built has been 100% custom, one-of-a-kind from the foundation up. Clients choose everything: square footage, window placement, number of floors, shape and size of rooms, not mention colors and finishes of every surface. It’s much more than choosing the color of stain or style of shingle. Everything is up to you; from the moment you sit down and plan the design to laying the foundation to final interiors. We recently integrated a 200-year old antique church door into a client’s home. Another house has an elevator and four stories. Unorthodox requests and off-the-wall changes are not a problem for us, and they shouldn’t be for any other custom builder worth their salt.
- Is the builder experienced with uneven, sloped building sites? Many homebuilders--a surprising number, in fact—are not adequately experienced in this arena. Palace Homes is specialist in working with steep and uneven grades. - How easy will it be to contact my homebuilder with questions/concerns? A lot of builders have huge offices with lots of busy employees. This translates to communication problems for you, the client. Palace Homes is a small enough operation that the owners are on your job site practically every day.
